CV - Pilar Baylina
Pilar Baylina has a Master degree (Environmental Engineering, MSc) and Bachelor degree (Chemical Engineering, BSc) from the Faculty of Engineering at University of, and a PhD in Public Health - Policies, Management and Health Administration from the New University of Lisbon, with focus in management of healthcare-associated infections. She is an Adjunct Professor at the Health School - Polytechnic Institute of Porto since 2003. She published more than 20 articles in specialised magazines. She has 3 book chapters, supervising 2 doctoral thesis. supervised /co-supervised more than 20 master's thesis. She participates and / or participated as an Investigator and manager in more than 5 funded projects related with quality/environmental management, biotechnology and other areas. Dr. Baylina works in the Health sector since 1998, with focus in Quality, Environmental, Occupational and Risk Management. She also developed Public Health research with emphasis on Medical Biotechnology. In her professional activities, she interacted with more than 100 collaborators in co-authoring scientific and technical works. She has several years of experience as consultant/trainer for the development and implementation of quality and environment management systems, risk management, and collaborated with Portuguese Certification agencies and international organisations as external auditor/trainer. She is also an entrepreneur since 2008. She is the Co-founder of InnoPhage, Lda. Actually she is co-founder and co-responsible of a Laboratory of Medical and Industrial Biotechnology. This research unit is coordinated by Dr. Fernandes and Dr. Baylina and it is dedicated to applied research to industrial and medical solutions by means of biotechnological and microbiological methodologies. This unit is particular devoted to molecular virology using animal and cell models for the applications of oncolytic viruses, bacteriophages, and molecular diagnostics of diseases. The lab is also supporting the creation of a newborn sartup: AP Factory. This unit has the following facilities: Core Lab, Cell and Biomaterials Engineering Lab, Microbial Biotechnology and Immunotechnology Lab, Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering Lab and the Unit of Bioinformatics. Other Activities: Dr. Baylina is Vice-President of Portuguese Engineering Association (North council), responsible for the development of several engineering, technical and general, activities and projects.
