The main goal of the GMOsensor project is the establishment of a strong, competent and active network between European and South American, involving higher education institutions and research units, supported by each partner expertise and laboratorial means for the promotion and enhancement of the production and exchange of core scientific knowledge. The present proposal is an innovative and well-organised scientific project aiming at advancing on nanobiosensor devices to assess the presence of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food and feed products. Optical, piezoelectric or electrochemical transducers became an exciting area of development for modern analytical science, whose potentialities are extended by the use of nanomaterials. The achievement of high throughput sensitive analysis requires innovative approaches that combine different research areas. State-of-the-art methodologies and advanced techniques will be incorporated in this research effort for the validation of new tools and the efficient monitoring of transgenic soybean and maize derived products from diverse regions. In this context, novel qualitative and quantitative bioanalytical methodologies are required to answer the demands on multitarget analysis to screen and identify authorised and unauthorised GMO.
The opportunity of exchanging experiences and comparing results will contribute to share research that has being done in a dispersed way and, in the near future, to transfer technology development to stakeholders. The possibility of scientific staff mobility and the organisation of workshops will assure the proper dissemination of the produced knowledge throughout all the scientific community, and also to the public in general. Joint publications in high scientific merit journals will attest the quality of the work accomplished by the involved research groups.
