Transport options

Porto has several efficient and affordable transport options, ideal for getting around during CIRMARE 2025. Below, we highlight the main alternatives available in the city:

Arrive at Porto by aeroplane:

Porto International Airport, also known as Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, was voted one of the five best airports in Europe. It is located around 10 km, approximately 20 minutes by car, from Porto city centre, where most of the hotels are located. The airport is served by the Metro do Porto, which provides a direct link to the city centre. There are also public buses and dedicated shuttles that connect the airport to the city.

Public transport (Metro and bus):

At the airport, take the purple line (E), to Estádio do Dragão, and get off at Trindade station (duration: 24 minutes), where you must change to the yellow line (D), to Santo Ovídio, and get off at IPO station (duration: 12 minutes). For the whole journey, you need a Z4 ticket which can be bought from the automatic machines; when you buy it for the first time, you will receive a Blue Andante card. Keep it for your return journey or other journeys in Porto.

Travelling in Porto:

To get from the conference venue to other parts of the city, the most convenient way is by taxi or uber. The city centre can be reached in 5 to 10 minutes by car. From the centre, the metro and buses are the best alternatives.

An interesting option for touring the riverside area, from Alfândega do Porto, Ribeira, Foz do Douro, including the neighbouring cities of Matosinhos and Gaia, is to hire a bicycle. There are several hire shops in the Ribeira area.
