The CRIARTE project aims to revolutionize the construction sector in Portugal and the European Union, proactively responding to structural challenges such as the decline in employment rates and the aging workforce. Through the integration of mobile robotics, artificial intelligence, digital twins, advanced control and augmented reality, it proposes innovative solutions for safe and efficient collaboration between large autonomous machines and human workers in real construction sites.

The project consortium consists of 2 companies (INGENIARIUS and GARCIA GARCIA), 1 collaborative laboratory (BUILTCoLAB), and 2 higher education institutions (ISEP and ISEC), with the ambition of developing an immersive and interactive digital twin for construction environments. This digital twin will enable seamless integration between asset, human, and robot, through sensing and AI for real-time analysis of on-site logistics operations.

Main objectives of CRIARTE:

• Expand the artificial perception of robots to recognize, in real time and in 3D, essential elements of the construction site, ensuring safety in human interaction.
• Develop a collaborative control architecture based on servoing and augmented reality for safer and more efficient human-robot joint operations.
• Create multimodal interaction interfaces between humans and robots, including voice commands, gestures, and augmented visualization with head-up displays (HUD).
• Automate the processing of point clouds and images to generate and update as-is openBIM models.
• Build a dynamic digital twin integrating BIM data, robotic sensors, and construction progress, enabling advanced simulation and monitoring.
• Evolve fleet management systems through AI and automatic generation of collaborative tasks based on Large Language Models (LLMs).
