The AGRIMA project has launched 8 citizen science projects focused on agri-food waste valorization and sustainable bioeconomy practices.
Students, academic staff, and local citizens will be involved in action by the University of the Aegean (Greece), the Aix-Marseille University (France), the University of Novi Sad (Serbia), and Polytechnic of Porto (Portugal), which are collecting data on waste management practices in their local communities.
Each university is running two projects, designed to strengthen civic engagement, develop environmental advocacy skills, and bring campus communities closer to the real challenges of the circular bioeconomy.
The projects are built around three interconnected goals. First, to strengthen civic engagement by involving campus communities in hands-on research that connects to their immediate surroundings. Second, to develop environmental skills, equipping participants with the knowledge, confidence, and tools to communicate and act on agri-food waste issues in their communities. And third, to bring universities closer to the real challenges of the circular bioeconomy, moving beyond theory and into direct contact with the waste management practices, gaps, and opportunities that exist in each partner's local context. Grounded in open science principles, all projects will produce openly accessible data, contributing to a shared European knowledge base on sustainable agri-food waste valorization.
