Tiago Fonseca is a Portuguese researcher and member of the Software for Cyber Physical Systems (SoftCPS) research group at the School of Engineering of the Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP), where he earned his master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence Engineering and bachelor’s in informatics engineering with a Diploma of Merit. SoftCPS group is also part of the Human-Centered Computing and Information Science (HumanISE) research centre within INESC TEC.
Tiago is currently enrolled in the Doctoral Programme in Informatics Engineering of FEUP (Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto), with a focus on decentralized reinforcement learning and other optimization approaches for energy applications.
His interests lie at the implementation of computer science and AI in fields such as IoT, Industry 4.0, Smart Cities, and Energy. His research portfolio reflects this passion, featuring published papers in conferences and journals related to energy and smart city solutions. Tiago has also collaborated with various companies and institutions on several international research and industry projects, contributing to the development and implementation of innovative AI-based solutions. In addition to his research pursuits, Tiago has informally co-advised students in the Ferrovia 4.0 and the SailShape projects, helping them develop their research skills and introducing them to the world of artificial intelligence. This experience has further ignited his enthusiasm for leading research projects and mentoring researchers in the future.
When he is not researching, Tiago enjoys photography, motorsports and travelling. He is also an avid reader of non-fictional books and viewer of cinema.
