Each year, the ITEA Board Support Group, together with the ITEA Steering Group, nominates three or four outstanding ITEA projects for the ITEA Awards of Excellence. These awards recognise key achievements in Innovation, Impact and Collaboration.
This year, the GenerIoT project received the ITEA Award of Excellence 2026 in the Collaboration category, recognising the project’s exceptional cooperation between industry, SMEs and academia in developing a common approach to Internet of Things (IoT) software engineering. The ceremony took place in Istanbul, Türkiye between 15-17 September, 2026.
The development of IoT systems is becoming increasingly complex, as hardware, software and communication technologies need to work together reliably while systems must also be updated throughout their operational lifetime. To address these challenges, GenerIoT introduced automated DevOps throughout the IoT lifecycle, developing a model-based systems engineering approach that supports software development, testing, deployment and maintenance.
The GenerIoT consortium, bringing together 19 partners from four countries, worked closely to develop common methods, tools and demonstrators that can be reused across different application domains. The partners agreed to use the emerging SysML 2.0 standard as a common modelling language, helping to establish a shared approach to IoT development.
The project’s results were demonstrated in several industrial scenarios, highlighting the potential of the approach for IoT development and lifecycle management.
ISEP/SoftCPS’s role in the project is to lead WP5 (Demonstrators) and work on the modelling of IoT systems for non-functional property analysis.
