
Veríssimo Santos finished his PhD in Biomedical Engineer in 2020 at the University of Minho, with the thesis entitled “Automatic detection of small bowel lesions by analyzing images obtained by capsule endoscopic”, his M.Sc. at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto in 2007 with the thesis entitled “Industrial communication architectures to support mobile computing systems” and his Degree in 2000 with the undergraduate dissertation entitled “Communicating on Industrial Ethernet Networks with SIEMENS SIMATIC S7 PLC’s”.
His current research interests are in computer vision and machine learning, with a focus on ensemble systems and neural networks.
He has authored 1 paper in international journals and 5 papers in national and international conferences. He serves as a reviewer for several international journals and conferences (Pattern Recognition, Computers in Biology and Medicine, Nonlinear Dynamics, Journal of Vibration Testing and System Dynamics, IFAC, among others).
Since 2001 he has been teaching at the Department of Electrotechnical Engineering at the School of Engineering (ISEP) of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (P.PORTO) where he has taught ungraduated and postgraduate courses in the field of Electronics (Analog, Power, Instrumentation), Digital Signal Processing, Computer Networking, Programming and Artificial Intelligence.
He has supervised more than 40+ undergraduate dissertations, 10+ dissertations, and has served as external examiner in 60+ undergraduate dissertations and 20+ master dissertations.
He has been the deputy director of the CTeSPARCI (Higher Education Technician Course in Robotic Automation and Industrial Control) from Oct 2019 to Sep 2020, the deputy director of the CTeSPSE (Higher Education Technician Course in Electromechanical Systems) from Sep 2020 to Aug 2025. And currently he is the director of the CTeSPARCI (Dec 2024-) and advisor for the ISEP non-Graduate Training Offer.
From 2000 to 2001 he was an R&D and Field Engineer at Efacec Automation and Robotics S.A. where he was responsible for introducing Profibus and Industrial Ethernet communication networks in Automatic Warehouse Systems.
